Academic Plans

Reading, writing, listening, and speaking are the main cornerstones of all the institute’s academic plans, in addition to basic grammar that will help students better understand the language system. Orthographic rules and punctuation will be taught, regardless of a student’s level and the type of course for which he/she is applying (except the Foundation Course).

The academic plan differentiates in terms of content according to a student’s level to develop linguistic skills through group discussions, lectures, presentations, exchanging roles and the dialogue of daily life. The institute will use teaching methods and techniques adopted in teaching foreign languages and share worksheets, texts, audio scripts and videos.

LANGUAGE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM

Students are offered the opportunity to interact with native Arab speakers through a language partnership program with volunteers from SOHARA and its neighboring areas. Language partners share his/her activities for a limited number of hours a week with students. First: To ensure students are equipped with opportunities to communicate with native Arabic speakers, to reinforce and develop their linguistic abilities, to encourage practicing what they have learnt and to progress in their studies. Second: Contribute to helping learners understand the culture, values, customs and traditions of society; This makes it easier for them to interact with and integrate with their members, since interacting with the local community gives the learners a cultural awareness that cannot be achieved within the classroom alone.

EVALUATION

Continuous assessment will be undertaken with the aim of checking the progress of students’ linguistic skills, reinforcing his/her strengths and setting remedial plans for improvement. Student proficiency will be assessed by his/her Interaction and participation in class, homework and written and oral tests. The range of marks at the end will be as follows:

  • Written tests: 40%
  • Homework: 20%
  • Report: 10%
  • Oral tests: 20%
  • Classroom participation: 10%
  • Total: 100%

ATTENDANCE IS A CONDITION OF REGISTRATION IN THE COURSES.

REGULATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS: ABSENCE CONTROLS

 1. A warning will be given for unexcused absences totaling 10% of class hours.

 2. A student will be expelled if he is absent for 20% of the lectures.

 3. A student is not allowed to be absent for 40% of the total class hours, including excused absences.

 4. If a student attends 50% of the course time, he/she will receive an attendance certificate showing his/her study hours.

PROFICIENCY TEST

The institute will provide students with a certificate showing evidence of their linguistic mastery in Arabic without registering in a course. Such a certificate can be issued for professional or personal purposes once a proficiency test at the required level (in accordance with the ACTFL Framework of Reference for Languages) is achieved. A student can sit for a proficiency test at any of the six levels. The test will be based on reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression, and oral expression.
